The work undertaken by graduate students of the University of Edinburgh’s masters programme in Advanced Sustainable Design reflects on the re-opening of the railway between Edinburgh and Tweedbank, and offers wide-ranging design proposals that relate to context-specific themes present in Galashiels.

The workshops that will take place as part of the Creative Coathanger Festival in Galashiels from 26 September – 9 October will build on the student projects by inviting community members and stakeholders to see the proposals, share their insights and perspectives, and collectively arrive at a set of priorities that are important to them as a community.

In essence, what we are proposing is to identify innovative ideas, to spark interesting conversations, and to provide tools to guide future development towards sustainability, resilience, carbon reduction and wellbeing in Galashiels and the Scottish Borders.
