Field Trip to the Borders

As part of our project, staff and students visited a number of locations in the Borders and North of England that were good examples of regeneration. These included the Kielder Artworks including James Turrell’s Skyspace and the Kielder Observatory as well as Glentress Forest Mountain Biking Centre.

Perhaps the highlight was a visit to Schofield Dyers and Finishers at their factory in Galashiels. A critical piece of infrastructure for the Scottish Textile industry – we had access to all parts of their production cycles and really helped us understand the textile infrastructure in the Scottish Borders.
